This signifies that the gates of hell fire are not closed all the year, but closed at certain times, like in Ramadan.
As well, among the gifts of Allah to us in this month is to close the gates of hell fire (…and the gates of hell fire are closed…[1]).
This signifies that the gates of hell fire are not closed all the year, but closed at certain times, like in Ramadan. This is a meritorious great grant, of an important impact on people.
It is narrated on the authority of Abu-Dhar that the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH) said: “the severity of heat is from the raging of Hell-fire [2].”
When Allah, Almighty closes the gates of the fire, He (SWT) guards us from its severe hotness and coldness. It is related on the authority of Abu-Hurairah that the Messenger (PBUH) said: (The Hell-fire complained to its Lord saying: O Lord! My parts are eating (destroying) one another. So Allah allowed it to take two breaths, one in the winter and the other in the summer. The breath in the summer is at the time when you feel the severest heat and the breath in the winter is at the time when you feel the severest cold[3].)
However, there are bodily impacts of the fire on humans. It is related on the authority of ibn `Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: (Fever is out of the hotness of the hell-fire, so you may extinguish it by water[4].)
In light of the aforementioned, closing the gates of fire is a blessing from Allah, where He (SWT) guards us from diseases, hotness, and severe coldness.
One may ponder on the connotations of the mercy of Allah which went beyond the unseen to the concrete realities.
