French President François Hollande has reportedly said his country has problems with Islam and too many migrants, according to a book written by Le Monde journalists published Wednesday, the Guardian reported.

“It’s not that Islam is a problem because it’s a religion that is in itself dangerous but because it wants to assert itself as a religion on the Republic,” Hollande said, according to the authors of “A President Should Not Say That: Secrets of Five Years in Office.”

“What might also be a problem is if Muslims don’t criticize acts of radicalization, if imams behave in an anti-republican way,” the French president said.

Hollande also said there were “too many migrants” arriving in France. “We teach them to speak French and then another group arrives and we have to start all over again. It never stops … so, at some point it 

Nicolas Sarkozy, a rival in the 2012 and upcoming 2017 presidential election, was “the little De Gaulle,” Hollande said, “a Duracell bunny who is perpetually agitated” and full of “vulgarity and cynicism.” But Hollande said he would still rather vote for Sarkozy than far-right leader Marine Le Pen of the National Front.

The book was based on 60 interviews with Hollande.
