Caring about the infrastructure, preparing the scene and ensuring continuous and easy flow of supplies:

1- Hulagu started to repair all roads from China to Iraq. As long as those might be, he did his best to maintain them to take in the great multitudes of Tatarian soldiers, taking into consideration the mountainous nature of such regions as Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Persia, in addition to the difficult natural barriers.

2- Hulagu installed many large bridges on the large rivers that were standing in the way of the soldiers, especially both rivers of Syr Darya and Amu Darya, and stationed forces to guard them. Thus, those would ensure the continuous flow of supplies, and open the way to a line of return for the Tatarian soldiers in case of defeat.

3- Hulagu prepared a massive group of gigantic trucks made specifically for carrying the heavy blockade equipment from China to Baghdad, in order to reduce the time of transporting such heavy equipment across that long distance.

4- Hulagu started to take over all centers and cities that control the main roads, thereby avoiding any unexpected attack for cutting off the roads of his armies during their march.

5- Hulagu did something extremely amazing, in which he proved very intelligent. He evicted the main roads, beginning from China to Baghdad, from flocks of animals, be they wild or domesticated, in order to leave the grass and herbs to grow so much and become sufficient for feeding the multitudes of horses and mounts carrying the war equipment, provisions, tents, etc. in this way, the soldiers would not be in need of taking with them fodder, and would also avoid any unexpected shortage of fodder, which is like the absence of fuel for the vehicles, if not more damaging, since the vehicle would remain in the same state even without fuel, whereas the animal would die out of hunger.
