Short Description
The Battle of Mansoura was a brilliant victory by all measures.
On the 4th of Thul-Qa‘dah 647 A.H., the Battle of Mansoura broke out and the Muslims achieved a brilliant victory. As wonderful as its details might be, it is irrelevant to talk about them here.
On the 7th of Thul-Qa‘dah 647 A.H., the army of Louis IX, which was camping outside Mansoura, was attacked, but the attack was repelled after a bitter struggle.
On the 17th of Thul-Qa‘dah 647 A.H., i.e. ten days after the last attack, Tooraan Shaah arrived in Mansoura and took over, and it was officially announced that Najm Ad-Deen Ayyoob had died and was succeeded by Sultan Tooraan Shaah, the ruler of Egypt and Shaam. He began to put a plan for a new attack on the Crusader army, whose conditions had worsened, and started to withdraw gradually towards Damietta, whereas the spirits of the Egyptian army rose, in view of the previous victories, especially in the Battle of Mansoura, and the arrival of Tooraan Shaah just in time.
A very good war plan was laid by Tooran Shaah, as a result of which the Egyptian army met the Crusaders in Farskor in the beginning of Muharram 648 A.H., two months after the great Battle of Mansoura. A great battle broke out there, and ended with the entire destruction of the Crusader army, and the capture of King Louis IX, after all his soldiers fell victims of killing and capture. Louis IX was driven in fetters to Mansoura, where he was detained in the house of Fakhr Ad-Deen Ibraaheem ibn Luqmaan.
Strict conditions were put for Louis IX to be ransomed, including the payment of 800,000 dinars of gold, half of which was to be paid immediately, and the remaining half in the future. Tooraan Shaah put the condition that he would keep all the other prisoners of war in captivity till the remaining portion of the ransom had been paid, and that all the Muslim prisoners of war should be released, and the city of Damietta should be handed over to the Muslims, and a ten-year armistice should be concluded between both parties.
It was a brilliant victory by all measures.
Half the ransom was hardly collected, and Louis IX was released and went to Acre, a Crusader emirate at that time, we ask Allaah to liberate it from the filth of the Jews now.
