Bukhari and Muslim related on the authority of `Abdullah ibn `Amr that a man asked the Prophet: (Which part of Islam is best? The prophet said: to provide food, and to say Salam to Muslims you know and those you do not know)

This sunnah can be fulfilled through preparing a dish of food you are not in need to it  and send it to a neighboring one in need, be hygene worker or house guard, or else.

Also, this sunnah is applicable to friends, neighbors, work colleagues, as the text of the Hadith has not restricted it to the poor or needy, however, it aims at spreading cordiality among Muslims.

Do not neglect your non-Muslim neighburs.
