The preaching approach with non-Muslims is a way applied by the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) which has been dominant in his life both in verbs and actions though severity he experienced on the part of polytheists.

Rabi`ah ibn `Abbad Ad-Dyali, was a disbeliever and then embraced Islam, narrated: I saw with my own eyes the prophet of Allah in the trading centre of Thi-Al-Majaz saying: O people! Say "No God but Allah that you may prosper". The prophet kept roaming the by-roads and people gathering around him silently, but he was keeping his words announced. At that time, a cross-eyed man with bright face in two braids was following the prophet saying: he is apostate and liar. I asked: who is that man? It was said to me: he is Muhammad ibn `Abdillah announcing prophethood. I asked: who is that man calling him a liar. It was said to me: he is his uncle, Abu-Lahab[1].

The prophet Muhammad kept dealing them gently though the plain absurdity on the part of Abu-Jahl and Abu-Lahab. The Prophet kept preaching them and called them to prosperity and deliverance.

Moreover, the prophet was bearing glad tidings for them that they will be empowered to the land if they embraces Islam prior to the ease they will get in the Hereafter.

In this connection, `Abdullah ibn `Abbas, Mayt Allah be pleased with them, said: Abu-Talib got ill. People of Quraish and the prophet came to visit him. There was an empty place behind Abu-Talib wherein Abu-Jahl hurried and sat. they complaint the prophet to Abu-Talib who addressed him: O nephew! What do you ask your people to do? The prophet replied: I ask them for a phrase which if they uttered, they will rule Arabs and non-Arabs will pay tribute for them. By then, Abu-Talib said: just one phrase?! The prophet replied: yes, let them say: No God but Allah. At that moment, people of Quraish said: "one single god?! Indeed, we have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication". Therefore, they were meant by the Quranic verses which read: (Sad. By the Qur'an containing reminder.......we have not heard of this in the latest religion. This is not but a fabrication), Sad, 1-7[2].

The prophet never frowned upon them or abandoned their gatherings. On the contrary, the prophet Muhammad dealt with polytheists leniently and kindly and he used to give them good news on being empowered to the lands and the ease of the Hereafter.
