The righteousness of the prophet Muhammad to people of At-Taif

The prophet Muhammad approached people of At-Taif in the manner he did with people of Mecca. At-Taif ranks second to Mecca in Peninsula as to significance. To At-Taif belongs the tribe Thaqif as most significant of Arab tribes.

The prophet Muhammad headed to them in the 10 year he got the revelation of Islam after the death of Abi-Talib. The prophet went to At-Taif to call them to Islam hoping that they will approach him in the habitual knightly conduct of Arabs.

The prophet presented Islam, but he was repulsed to a degree he never imagined. Moreover, he found them ridiculous to the extent their chief `Abd Yalil ibn `Amr said: if it is really he is sent by Allah, he will desecrate the Holly House). Mas`ud said: if not you?! Habib said: By Allah! I will never address you as if you are really a Messenger, then you are more valuable to address you, while if you lie to Allah, by then, it would not be proper to me to address you[1].

Despite all of that, the prophet spent ten days[2] calling to Islam in At-Taif that he left no body not addressed by Islam, but all people there refused to accept Islam and asked him in the tenth day to depart from At-Taif.

They were lined up in two lines and incited their boys and the foolish to chase the prophet and his companion Zayd ibn Harithah who were forced topass through the two lines and be hit by stones to the extent the feet of the prophet bled hurt the head of Zayd[3].

The prophet Muhammad along with Zayd went out At-Taif trced by the stones and insults of its people until they were forced to enter a garden possessed to `Utbah and Shaibah, sons of Rabi`ah
