Short Description
If people revenge for every situation in their lives, their relations with others would vanish. Almighty Allah created people in different discernment abilities, everyone has his own interests which he gives priority over others which lead to disputes. Prudent people should to their utmost disregard offenses against him which is not weakness as some may believe, rather it is strength. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: (The strong person is not the good wrestler. Rather, the strong person is the one who controls himself when he is angry.) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 73, #135)”
That was the way of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, not avenge for himself which reveals his strong spirit and intensity in controlling himself, Aisha reported: (The Messenger of Allah did not take revenge for anything against himself, but if the sacred law of Allah was violated then he would take legal retribution for the sake of Allah.) Source: Sahih Bukhari 3367, Sahih 2327
This indicates that the sunnah of the Prophet was to pardon others wronging him personally, however, he would take legal retribution for those violating the sanctions of Allah Almighty.
This is demonstrated in the Hadith narrated by Bukhari on the authority of Anas ibn Malik who said: (It was one day when I was walking with the Prophet “PBUH” who was wearing a Najrani cloak with a very thick border when a bedouin happened to meet him. He took hold of the side of his cloak and drew it violently. I noticed that the violence of jerk had bruised the neck of Messenger of Allah (PBUH). The bedouin said: "O Muhammad! Give me out of Allah's wealth that you possess.'' Messenger of Allah (PBUH) turned to him and smiled and directed that he should be given something.)[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Bukhari narrated on the authority of Aishah that a group of Jews entered upon the Prophet and said, "As-Samu-Alaikum." (i.e. death be upon you). I understood it and said, "Wa-Alaikum As-Samu wal-la'n. (Death and the curse of Allah be Upon you)." Allah's Apostle said "Be calm, O `Aisha! Allah loves that not; should be kind and lenient in all matters." I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Haven't you heard what they (the Jews) have said?" Allah's Apostle said "I have (already) said (to them) "And upon you! "
The aforementioned two incidents indicate the Prophet’s pardon for those wronged him, which is a Sunnah we must observe to reveal the shinning spirit of Islam.
