Short Description
The Friday Prayer is one of the distinct symbols that distinguishes the religion of Islam from other religions. The Almighty Allah has blessed Muslims with this grant as a day of congregational worship. One of the most important aspects of worship performed on that day is the deliverance of Friday Khutbah (sermon). One of etiquettes and conditions concerning it is that shorten the time of delivering Khutbah, unlike to the common practised nowdays. Imams seek argument for making khutbah long to the attendance being late, or even their numbers are not enough, so they prolong it for more people comming for prayer. This is indeed contradicting the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
It is related in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Abu-Wael that Ammar ibn Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: “Prolonging prayer and shortening one’s khutbah is a sign of one’s understanding of the religion. So, prolong the prayer and shorten the khutbah.” (Ahmad and Muslim)
In fact, Muslims at these times where lessons and sermons are not enough need to be encouraged to attend the Friday sermon early, and this will not be attained unless they are convinced that the speaker is keen to shorten his sermon, and they will not be bored if they attend the sermon of the first moments.
Let's observe this sunnah, and inform Muslims of doing so.
