Short Description
Muslim communities are in dire need to spirit of affection; an easy way to attain this is through spreading salam among us, i.e. by saying: as-salamu alaikum.
In this regard, Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which, if you do, will foster love amongst you: (i. e.) spread Salam to one another "by saying: as-salamu alaikum.), related by Muslim.
This is not limited to Muslims you know, however it is extended to those you are not acquainted with. This is related by Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'as (May Allah be pleased with them) who reported: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Which act in Islam is the best?" He (ﷺ) replied, "To give food, and to greet everyone, whether you know or you do not." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
The more you spread salam, the more reward you will attain. 'Imran bin Husain (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: "As-Salamu 'Alaikum (may you be safe from evil). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to his greeting and the man sat down. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Ten (meaning the man had earned the merit of ten good acts)." Another one came and said: "As-Salamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullah (may you be safe from evil, and Mercy of Allah be upon you)." Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to his greeting and the man sat down. Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Twenty." A third one came and said: "As-Salamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu (may you be safe from evil, and the Mercy of Allah and His Blessings be upon you)." Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to his greeting and the man sat down. Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Thirty." [ At- Tirmidhi and others, and ranked sahih by Al-Albani].
This great sunnah is easily observed through spreading salam to your household, your colleagues, your workmates, your neighbors, and all those passing by you on your way.
