Short Description
One may eat but does not feel satisfied, or finds no good effect on his health and his body; and that is for lack of a blessing in such food. It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “The disbeliever eats with seven intestines and the believer eats with one intestine.” narrated by Muslim.
Muslims differ in attaining blessing from their food, so Prophet Muhammad exhorted us to ask Allah to grant us blessing from food, rather He (PBUH) referred especially to milk, which is related by At-Tirmidhi, ranked Hasan by Al-Albani, on the authority of ibn Abbas who said: “I entered with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), I and Khalid bin Al-Walid, upon Maimunah so she brought us a vessel of milk. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) drank from it. I was upon his right and Khalid was upon left, so he said to me: ‘The (turn to) drink is for you, so if you wish, you could choose to grant it to Khalid.’ So I said: ‘I would not prefer anyone (above myself) for your leftovers.’ Then the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: ‘Whoever Allah feeds some food, then let him say: “O Allah, bless it for us, and feed us better than it, (Allāhumma bārik lanā fīhi wa aṭ`imnā khairan minhu)” and whomsoever Allah gives milk to drink, then let him say: “O Allah bless it for us, and grant us increase in it (Allāhumma bārik lanā fīhi wa zidnā minhu).”)
Here, we find two of Prophetic sunnah' one after eating generally, and anoter after drinking milk specifically. It is a sunnah makes blessing in our food, and makes us always remembering the grace of Almighty Allah upon us, and thus He (SWT) increases us as demonstrated in Surah Ibrahim, verse (if you be thankful, I will give you more….)
