Short Description
Sacrifice sunnah is practiced once a year, thus a Muslim able to observe it should not neglect it. Propet Muhammad (PBUH) disliked it for the Muslim rich to abandon this sunnah to the extent that He (PBUH) said: (Whoever can afford it, but does not offer a sacrifice, let him not come near our prayer place.), related by ibn Majah and ranked sahih by Al-Albani. Moreover, it is a sunnah to choose the strong animal for sacrifice which is demonstrated in the narration related by At-tirmidhi and Abu-Dawud, ranked sahih by Al-Albani, on the authority of Abu-sa`id who said: (The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sacrificed a horned, defectless ram with a black stomach, black feet and black around its eyes.)
Abu-Dawud related, ranked sahih by Al-Albani, on the authority of 'Ubaid bin Fairuz said: "I said to Al-Bara bin Azib: 'Tell me of the sacrificial animals that the Messenger of Allah dislike or forbade. He said: "The Messenger of Allah gestured like this with his hand, and my hands are shorter than the hand of the Messenger of Allah, (and he said). 'There are four that will not do as sacrifices: The animal that clearly has one bad eye: the sick animals that is obviously sick; the lame animal with an obvious lamp; and the animal that is so emaciated that it is as if there is no marrow in its bones: He said: "And I dislike that the animal should have some fault in its horns or ears." He said: "What you dislike, forget about it, and do not make it forbidden to anyone.)
A Muslim may sacrifice by one ewe, seven people may sacrifice by a cow, and a camel is sufficient for ten which is demonstrated by At-Tirmidhi , ranked sahih by Al-Albani, on the authority of ibn Abbas said: (we were at the company of the Prophet “PBUH” travelling, and it coincided with feast of Al-Adha, then we made sacrifice by a cow for seven, and by a camel for ten.
Many Hadiths have been narrated concerning the virtue of sacrifice, but they are weak in most, but it is a stressed sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH).
