Short Description
A Muslim believes that Almighty Allah is alone who grants cure as stated in the glorious Quran, chapter, As-Shu`araa, verse, 80, where it reads: (And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me).
This is pronounced by the Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, as describing the Almighty God, SWT,.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to emphasize on this great sense in the souls of the believers.
It was his sunnah to invoke Allah by different forms of supplication on sickness asking Allah for cure, yet it does not mean that he does not seek medication or pay attention to it. Rather, he meant to correct the creed of Muslims as medication could not bring recovery unless Allah Almighty wills so.
The supplication indicated by the Prophet is mere a practical means to secure recovery.
The Sunnah is full of many examples stressing this sunnah to dig it deeply in the souls of believers.
For example, Imam Muslim narrated on the authority of Uyhman ibn Abi-Al-Ass At-Thaqafi that he complained a pain in his body since he reverted to Islam, hence the Prophet said: (put your hand on the organ in pain and say “in the name of Allah, thrice, I seek refuge in Allah and His ultimate power from the evil of what I am experiencing and fear, seventh).
Also, Imam Muslim narrated on the authority of `Aishah who said: (When any person amongst us fell ill, Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) used to rub him with his right band and then say: O Lord of the people, grant him health, heal him, for Thou art a Greet Healer. There is no healere, but with Thy healing Power one is healed and illness is removed. She further added: When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) fell ill, and his illness took a serious turn I took hold of his hand to that I should do with it what he wards to do with that (i. e. I would rub his body with his sacred hand). But he withdrew his hand from my hand and then said: O Allah, pardon me and make me join the companion ship on She said. I was gazing at him constantly whereas he had passed away.)
These are invocations from the sunnah that we should memorize, seek medication thereto, and believe cure in them.
