Short Description
Prophet Muhammad was seen very anxious when black clouds appear in horizon, it stated in the glorious Quran the story of `Ad people (Then, when they saw the (Penalty in the shape of) a black clouds traversing the sky, coming to meet their valleys, they said, "This black clouds will give us rain!" "Nay, it is the (Calamity) ye were asking to be hastened!- A wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty!. Everything will it destroy by the command of its Lord!" Then by the morning they - nothing was to be seen but (the ruins of) their houses! Thus do We recompense those given to sin!), Al-Ahqaf, 24-25.
Prophet Muhammad used to recall this sense when black clouds appear, though Almighty Allah promised him not to punish his people so long as he is alive which is stated in the Quran: (But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.), Al-Anfal, 33.However, it was meant by the Prophet for his nation not to feel satisfied by this worldly life; rather, they should feel fear always from the punishment of Allah which makes them frequently repentant to Allah. This is what Allah Almighty has warned us from, namely to feel fake tranquility as it states: (Did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment by night while they are asleep? or are the residents of the towns free of this fear that Our torment may seize them (again) in the forenoon when they are at play (completely lost in the worldly pleasures)? Did they then feel secure against the plan of Allah?- but no one can feel secure from the Plan of Allah, except those (doomed) to ruin!), Al-`Araf, 97-99.
So it was a sunnah of the Prophet to feel anxious and worried on seeing black clouds, which is reported by Imam Muslim on the authority of `Aishah said: (When there was on any day windstorm or dark black clouds (its effects) could be read on the face of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he moved forward and backward (in a state of anxiety) ; and when it rained, he was delighted and it (the state of restlessness) disappeared. 'A'isha said: I asked him the reason of this anxiety and he said: I was afraid that it might be a calamity that might fall upon my Ummah, and when he saw rainfall he said: It is the mercy (of Allah).)
When it winds at Medina, the Prophet used to invoke in certain supplications, 'Ata' b. Rabah reported on the authority of 'A'isha, the wife of the Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him), who said: (Whenever the wind was stormy, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: O Allah! I ask Thee for what is good in it, and the good which it contains, and the good of that which it was sent for. I seek refuge with Thee from what is evil in it, what evil it contains, and the evil of that what it was sent for; and when there was a thunder and lightning in the sky, his colour underwent a change, and he went out and in, backwards and forwards; and when the rain came, he felt relieved, and I noticed that (the sign of relief) on his face. 'A'isha asked him (about it) and he said: It may be as the people of 'Ad said: When they saw a black clouds formation coming to their valley they said:" It is a black cloud which would give us rain" (Qur'an, Al-Ahqaf. 24).
Accordingly, we as Muslims should feel the same feelings of the Prophet when seeing black clouds or winds.
